Substance Abuse 411 #27-Methadone Support and Pregnancy-Jessica Silansky

Methadone treatment programs for opioid addiction have been around since the late 1940's but how much do we know about the drug and how it helps substance abuse recovery?

Substance Abuse 411 finds out the answers to many of our questions from Jessica Silansky, Certified Methadone Advocate, Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor and Primary Pregnancy Support Specialist with www.MethadoneSupport.org.

We also chat in-depth on women who are pregnant and are involved in a methadone treatment program and hopefully debunk many myths.

Substance Abuse 411-#26-In the Rooms-Ron Tannebaum-Ken Pomerance

We are living in a connected world.  iPhones, iPads, smart phones, the internet and so much more has put the world at our fingertips.  Tapping into that connected world are Ron Tannebaum and Ken Pomerance. The two have created "In the Rooms."

In The Rooms (IntheRooms.com) is one of the biggest and definitely “the” most complete online social network for the Recovery community on the world-wide-web. Their mantra is H.I.T.C.H. and their mission is to Help, Inform, Touch, Connect, and Heal those already in Recovery, seeking Recovery and the family and friends supporting recovery around the world.

On this Substance Abuse 411, I talk to the the co-founders about the website, how it came into being and the depth of resources available on the site.

Substance Abuse 411-#25-Jewish Recovery-Daniel B. Sobel Friendship House-Rabbi Yisrael Pinson

Thanks to a suggestion by a listener to Substance Abuse 411, we became aware of a Jewish Recovery program at the Daniel B. Sobel Friendship House in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

We sat down with the Director of the facility, Rabbi Yisrael Pinson and discussed the many facets of the program, finding out about other "Recovery Rabbis" around the country, and the growth of similar programs in the Jewish community.

On a previous Substance Abuse 411 we talked with Larry Murray, Vice President and Director of Youth Development-National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University.  Larry is primarily responsible for the development and implementation of CASAStart.

On this Substance Abuse 411, we talk with Lori Swanson the Drug Free Communities Coordinator-The Substance Abuse Coalition of Kanabec County Public Health on how the CASAStart program is working in that small Minnesota rural community.  (By the way, Kanabec County's CASAStart program is the first of the over 100 currently in the United State to earn national accreditation.)
